My dog pretends to be cold just so I wrap him in a blanket

My dog has started doing something that honestly makes me laugh every night. A few weeks ago it was actually cold in the house, and he was shivering a little, so I wrapped him in a blanket. He loved it so much he fell asleep in seconds.

Now the weather isn't cold at all. The heater is on, the house is warm, and I'm comfortable in a T-shirt. But every night he walks up to me, sits down, and does this tiny fake shiver. It's so dramatic that I would believe him if he didn't stop the second I wrap him up.

He'll look at the blanket basket, then look at me like, You know what to do. As soon as I put the blanket on him, he stops shivering, curls up into a little burrito, and lets out a big happy sigh. It's honestly so obvious he's faking it, but I still give in every time.

So now it's our little routine. He pretends he's freezing, I act like I believe him, and he gets his cozy blanket moment.

Please tell me someone else's pet also fakes stuff just for comfort or attention. I can't be the only one getting outsmarted by a dog who still tries to eat tissues.

Hannah_Louise • 14h ago . When my dog wants something, she will barter with me. If I'm eating something she likes, she will start putting her toys in my lap. She'll drop one, sit, stare at me, and if she doesn't get what she wants she'll bring something else.

It's adorable and very smart. Funny enough, it still hasn't really worked (for food at least; I'll give her a special toy as a trade sometimes) but she tries it often.

    • III_Ice7779 16h ago I have 2 dogs. 1 doesn't like to walk in the snow and starts hopping on 3 legs. The 2 dog doesn't mind walking in the snow. The other day, I carried the dog who doesn't like walking in the snow. Now the 2nd dog is hopping along on 3 legs. Once I put down the first dog and he walks fine, the 2nd dog will walk fine too.

. 99dalmatianpups • 15h ago I let my 90 lb lab under my blanket with me once, and now every time I have a blanket, he'll use his nose to lift the edge of the blanket/stare at me huffing and sighing until I pick it up and let him under with me lol

B possessaubrey • 15h ago My cat doesn't need to fake anything, she just screams and I try to give her what she wants

. squirrelfoot 13h ago I feed squirrels and I do not let them climb me - except when they are hurt and need help or if they see a predator. One has learned to do a hawk warning bark so I let her sit on me, meaning she can eat in peace without interruption from aggressive males since the males keep a certain distance from me. I am putty in her hands.

She has a brain the size of a chickpea, but she has no difficulty manipulating me even though I now know the hawk barks are lies.

    • MileHighShorty 15h ago The family dog fakes being sad for attention. He will give you the sad eyes, then bury his face in your lap like an ostrich while you pet him. He got me a few times over the holiday until I realized he was faking lol.

No_Week_8937 • 14h ago My cat had a cold and then after spent several weeks malingering. Saw him walk past me several times completely fine when he didn't know I was there, then when he noticed me the first thing he did was start sneezing and sniffling.
  • 18
He was a big baby, any time he had the slightest cold he would be being extremely pathetic and would insist on me spending hours in bed with him under the covers being little spoon.

Chicken-lady_ • 13h ago My adorable rescue hound has a deformed leg bone from an injury when was a tiny puppy, long before we got him. He is around seven now. Gets medication for the resulting arthritis and regular vet checks and everything.

Typically he walks on it like it's no big deal. But when he wants a treat or something off of your dinner plate, suddenly he has the most dramatic lump you could imagine. Combined, of course, with the saddest puppy dog eyes you can imagine.
  • 21
Toss that treat ten feet away, though, and he's running on that leg like he's been miraculously healed!

. Paige JJohnson 13h ago One of my dogs hurt his leg and was getting extra attention and medicine as a result. The other got sick of being "left out" and started lifting one paw and limping when she walked. She very quickly "recovered" once my attention was back on her.

mrsctb 13h ago My dog also acts cold. But I genuinely believe she might be cold lol she has short hair. When I go to bed, I tuck her in with a blanket and she usually wakes up still under the blanket. I got her a cave bed recently and she seems. to enjoy that as well

Gympie-Gympie-pie • 12h ago He's not faking it for comfort and attention, he's doing it to COMMUNICATE with you! Dogs communicate a lot through body language, he has figured out a way of asking you something he would like you to do for him. That's proper communication, it's really smart!

cmeinmi 11h ago I have two Boxers, and they sleep in bed with us. Sometimes, if one got the better spot, the other pouts and goes out to the couch. A couple minutes later, he barks, which makes the one in bed run out to see what's up. Then who comes racing down the hallway to snag the good spot in bed! Such a scammer!

Apprehensive-Rub7857 • 14h ago On snowy days I put a giant towel in the dryer and get it nice and warm. My dog goes out and gets covered with snow and comes running in to the dryer so he can get the hot towel rubdown. This gets repeated three times. He loves it.
